For those in Tucson be sure to check out this afternoon's Tucson Citizen article in the "In Tucson", "Outdoors" section. A great article. Captures things very well. Plus, nice picture cranking up Mt. Lemmon with pilot, Rupert Laumann.
For those not in Tucson, check it out on line at http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=outdoors&story_id=091504c4_out_bryn
Nice to include the other Tucsonans in the article that are here in Athens as well. I have met most of them.
Regarding TV coverage on Telemundo. We still have not located their television coverage schedule. We expect coverage to begin on Saturday. There is no schedule on the Internet or their website. So, if anyone runs across it in the TV Guide, cable TV Guide on TV, or anywhere else. If you find it, email me so we can post it on the website. Thanks.
Opening Ceremony is in two days, this Friday night September 17th. As mentioned before, 3/4 of our cycling team will not be going (including Glenn and I) since it will involve a lot of standing and waiting from 4:00 p.m. where we would not return until after 1:00 a.m. We race the next day, so it would impact our performance. Unfortunately, the transportation system does not go back and forth during the Ceremony. It's allor nothing. All the roads are shut down between the Olympic Village and the stadium. So, our team going and coming back in a van is not an option. Believe me, I have tried to go and presented many options...but nothing viable. Therefore, we are not going. I will watch it on TV from the Olympic Village and try to tape it from here. My sister will be going. Heather arrives Thursday PM. I will see her Friday mid-day. I will have her use my video camera during the ceremony. Opening Ceremony is sold out...so that is exciting. There will be constant TV coverage here in Athens...so will be fun for us to watch various events while we are not racing.
Wow! It's almost here. We are focussing our energies on the road omni (road race and time trial), but are anxious to give it a whirl on the track for the 4 km pursuit. We do that Saturday around 2:30 in the afternoon, which is 4:30 Saturday a.m. Tucson and Seattle time. You can go to the website and click on the USOC pressbox or U.S. Paralympics to get info and results, or wait until about 10:00 Saturday A.M. Tucson time where we expect to have a journal entry with details.
While the 4 km pursuit on the track is not our specialty event (we do not expect to medal in it), we will strive to get beyond the qualifying round. If we can be in the top 8, we will do it again and go for a medal the next day. We will have to produce the ride of our lives to go another round, but that is what we are here for. We are primed and ready to go!
Okay, more journal entries to come over next several days as the countdown continues.
