Okay...one and done.
We were 14th out of 19 in the 4 km pursuit event today. We rode smooth, but did not hit the time we needed to make the next round tomorrow. We were shooting for top 8 and projected that a 4:36-4:40 would give us that. We were right...that range was 5th-9th place.
We were faster than scheduled on our first three laps. Had we held that pace, we would have been 4th going into tomorrow's round. We were smooth, which was our goal. We held the pace we intended for laps 4-6, but then fell off .6 - 1.2 seconds per lap thereafter. We picked it back up last three seconds. Ended up getting beat by our counteparts across the track by 6 one hundreths of a second. We did a 4:50 4 km pursuit.
So...on to the road events. Our focus is there. We had fun cheering on our team. We are not disappointed given that this was not our specialty and we had limited time on our track bike on the track.
Heads are up...we are movin on. We think we are still under the radar with our competition...going into the road event. So, that is good.
Had a great time in the stands before and after with my sister. What a cheerer...has a good, loud voice! And boy...she waves that American flag well!
Donna just arrived. She called me on Heather's cell phone. Running to a team meeting now.
Our women's tandem team got a silver in the 1 km sprint. A great result for them. They beat the previous world record...but so did the gold medalists from England. The difference was less than 1/2 a second!
Will write more soon. Road race is next weekend. We now have a week. Later.
